The General Situation of Xiaojiang
The town Xiaojiang lies in the middle of Aojiang River’s drainage basin. It is located at the southern Wenzhou City of Zhejiang Province, neighboring with Cangnan County of Wenzhou. The climate in Xiaojiang Town is attributed to the subtropics ocean monsoon, which usually results in typhoon in summer and autumn. The average annual temperature recorded there is 18 degrees centigrade, and its annual rainfall is 1,800 millimeters. Xiaojiang Town covers nearly 27.3 square kilometers, where there is a domiciliary population of 52.2 thousand. So the average area of cultivated land belonging to every individual is less than 0.6 acreage. The town has five offices, which lead 2 communities, 2 resident areas and 49 administrative villages. The total value of industry output achieved by the town was 3257 million in 2005.
The town has transport facilities by sea, by land or by air. It is at a distance of 13 kilometers from Aojiang River Port, and is also about 70 kilometers apart from Yongqiang Airport of Wenzhou. The National Road NO.104 and Wenfu Railway which is been building now run across the town. And Yongtaiwen Superhighway also has an entrance in the town. Besides, there is a high-level road---Shiji Road connecting Xiaojiang with the town of Longgang.
Xiaojiang Town was born in 1985.It is a young industry and trade city which is full of vigorous spirit. The plastic weaving industry in Wenzhou even in countrywide is being concentrated in the town. It is one of the four star industry towns in Pingyin County, and is the largest plastic weaving produce base in China. In 1999, the town was named “Chinese plastic weaving town” and “The No.1 town in plastic weaving in China” by Chinese Development Promotion Union. In 2002, it gained No.16 in the 30 strongest towns of Wenzhou. Thanks to Xiaojiang, Wenzhou City got the honorary title---“Chinese Plastic Weaving City” in the same year. In 2003, Xiaojiang was decided as the first important town for the survey of city (local) credit system building.
The flourishing plastic weaving industry in Xiaojiang, promotes the entertainment industry such as banking, real estates, traffic and public housing, as well as the specializing markets such as costume, non-staple food, agricultural product and raw material. The trend of developing industry and commerce gives great impetus to the whole growth of Xiaojiang’s economy.
Xiaojiang’s dominant position is so evident. The exit of Yongtaiwen Superhighway in Xiaojiang has a traffic discharge which is 2 or 3 times larger than that of Kunyang Exit and Lingxi Exit. In eastern Xiaojiang there lies Aojiang Town and Longgang Town, which are both in the front row of the 30 strongest towns in Wenzhou. Longxi Town---also has a good strength in the 30 towns---is located in the south of Xiaojiang. In Wenzhou’s layout of town system, Xiaojiang together with Aojiang, Longgang, and Qiancang was decided as the second center of South Wenzhou’s city circle, and an important part composing the downtown of secondary cities in Ao River’s drainage basin.
